ECCo 2022

We look forward to welcoming you to the 5th Early Career Colloid (ECCo) meeting, which will be held at the University of Hertfordshire‘s College Lane Campus. The event will be running from midday on 14th September to early afternoon on 15th September 2022, with a social event on the evening of the 14th September.

This two-day meeting aims to join newly appointed (within 10 years of first appointment) academics and industrialists, research fellows and postdocs. The meeting will include plenary and contributed talks, poster presentations, networking sessions and panel discussions.

Invited Speakers

Prof Alex Routh, University of Cambridge

Alex Routh is a Professor of Colloid Science in the Department of Chemical Engineering & Biotechnology at the University of Cambridge. His labs are at the BP Institute; a multidisciplinary research institute at the University which spans six departments within the physical sciences at the University. Alex’s research covers thin film fluid mechanics, film formation, encapsulation, lubrication, colloidal stability and drying patterns from droplets. He has recently been learning neutron scattering and reflectivity.

Alex received his undergraduate degree at Cambridge and his PhD at Princeton in the United States. After two years of post-doc in Bristol he has been at Cambridge since 2006.

Dr Malcolm Faers, Bayer

Malcolm Faers is a formulation scientist and Senior Science Fellow at Bayer. He studied chemistry at the University of Sheffield (BSc) and then colloid science at Imperial College (PhD). His research interests include the application of colloid science to flowable formulation design and innovation, including biodelivery and stability of suspensions which are fascinating subjects for research and was awarded the Best Formulation Innovation award at the Crop Science Forum & Awards in 2019. He has designed and developed many crop protection products that are sold globally, published numerous patent applications and papers, and co-organised several events & conferences in the formulation and colloids area. He is also chair of the SCI Formulation Forum, is a Fellow of the RSC and was awarded the Joint Colloids Group Thomas Graham Lecture award in 2021.
