Plenary Speakers

Dr Susanne Klein FInstP

EPSRC Manufacturing Fellow and Associate Professor, Centre for Print Research, University of the West of England in Bristol, UK.

In 1995 she joined the University of Bristol where she worked on 19th century optics. In 1998 she joined Hewlett Packard Labs and specialised in liquid crystal display technology and new materials for 3D printing. Her research interests now are 19th century photomechanical processes, specially Woodburytype, Woodbury gravure, Lippmann photography and colour photography based on Maxwell’s three colour theory. She is also interested in alternative ways of colour recording and reproduction.

Prof. Alex Routh

Professor of Colloid Science, Department of Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology, University of Cambridge, UK

Prof. Alex Routh received his BA and Meng degrees in Chemical Engineering from the University of Cambridge. He obtained his PhD from Princeton University in the United States in 2000. He was a post-doc in Chemistry at Bristol from 2000-2002 and was a lecturer in Chemical Engineering at the University of Sheffield from 2002-2006. He has been lecturing in Chemical Engineering at the University of Cambridge since 2006 and was promoted to full professor in 2017. His position is a joint appointment with the Institute for Energy and Environmental Flows (formerly called the BP Institute for Multi-Phase Flow); a multi-disciplinary research institute, within the University, spanning the physical sciences. Alex’s research is in the field of colloid science and he has worked in the areas of encapsulation, dispersion stability, formulation and drying. Alex was awarded the Mcbain medal by the RSC/SCI colloid groups in 2010 and the Davidson Medal by the IChemE in 2023.
